The wild foods report
20th
May

The other night we had a wild and local foods potluck and mixer. Nearly everyone dressed in their swankiest. We ate great food and had libations of tasty homemade beverages of wild fruits and plants. Some of the foods that came to the table included buffalo stew, smoked salmon, acorn bread, salad made entirely from local permaculture farms and much more. In true Trackers style, at the last minute Jason (our new immersion coordinator) found a pool/ping pong table in mint condition and later a foosball table walked into the room. X-Treme Ping Pong eventually ensued.

It was a veritable who's who of primitive skills in Portland (ha). Though I was scratching my head over why most people grumbled about my choice in music: Sinatra and Tony Bennett. Once I turned on Creedence Clearwater, everyone felt more secure in their "Hippiness". I appreciate these potlucks because they fulfill our mission: have Trackers use the local resources it develops to build greater community. In that vein we announce next month's wild and local foods potluck, plus a brand new open house skills share...

Free open house skills share evenings, second Tuesday of the month...

Arrowheads, buffalo and more, June 9, 2009, 6:30-10:30
Come hang out with Trackers instructors doing their thing. During June's skills share the Pinger brothers will be knapping rocks to make arrowheads and knives. The whole Trackers crew will be prepping and scraping our buffalo hide to tan (using the leavings to make hide glue). Anything else related to traditional skills can also happen: from basket weaving to fire by friction, from leather work to playing ping pong. Please note, this is not a class. There are no guarantees of what you will learn, only an opportunity and space to work on your projects, jump in on others and ask questions from people who really really know their stuff.

Wild and local foods potluck, last Sunday of the month...

A BBQ for wild and local foods, June 28, 2009, 6:30-10:30
Bring your favorite local veggies or wild beast to grill on the Bar-B. This party will welcome in our new outside gathering area being redesigned by our crack commando permaculture A-Team. It will be time to hang outside, do some flintknapping and lounge inside playing ping pong and foos. As always bring a local or wild foods. If you are so inspired there will be a contest for both the snazziest and ugliest hawaiian shirt. Also, if you know a awesome bluegrass crew, have them contact me soon. It would be great to get some dancing on. Tony at 503-453-3038 or tony@trackersnw.com

Both events are at 5040 SE Milwaukie Avenue, Portland, Oregon 97202
