Jungle Marine Locations
Berkeley, CA
The Berkeley Marina is our base for the first part of our journey. The marina is a beautiful "island in the city" with lots of parks and protected habitat surrounding it. We call this place home for the first 2-weeks the program.
Comptche, CA
Spirit Springs Permaculture Farm is 120 acres of pristine redwood forest and rolling meadows. A communal retreat center nestled in a food forest along the banks of a large pond will be our home while we are here. This land is a beautiful example of large scale permaculture in action.
Punta Mona, Costa Rica
A 90-acre permaculture farm on the southern caribbean coast of Costa Rica which is only accessible by foot or boat. This is the site of our Permaculture Design Course. There are a number of beautiful naturally built structures in which you live. Fresh local organic meals are provided during our time here.
Pavones, Costa Rica
Pavones is Central to many of our destinations and is used as our “base camp” for storing gear and recharging in between expeditions. Immersed in large undeveloped piece of land at the waters edge, this property has a 2 story house which we use as our communal kitchen and bathhouse. We are within walking distance of one of the top surf breaks on the Pacific Coast. There are a lot of surfers and travelers in the area who keep the vibe of this place very exciting and fun. Students can camp on the land near the house or can find a rental of their own in the nearby area. Pavones is on the southern edge of the mouth of Golfo Dulce.
Osa Peninsula
The Osa Peninsula is the site for our naturalist-led hikes and survival skill lessons. It is one of the largest most undisturbed areas of rainforest jungle in Central America. It is renowned for its bird and wildlife activity, the poison arrow frog and the jaguar can both be found here. The peninsula is home to the Osa Indians who live on a reservation deep in the interior. Corcovado National Park takes up most of the southern section of the peninsula.
Golfo Dulce
This is our primary cruising ground while aboard the Umiak. Protected from the open ocean, the waters are relatively calm but there is plenty of wind for sailing. A wealth of sea life and native culture surrounds us. This is one of the most untouched tropical crusing zones on the Pacific Coast .
