Student Life
Life in the Community
Beyond scheduled field and class days, you are woven into a village of experience. Community members are always gathering or preserving a bounty of local wild foods. There are always celebrations such as local and wild food potlucks with music and dancing. And the community does not simply begin and end with Trackers, many other organizations and ecovillages seamlessly blend with ours to create an inspiring culture of support and care.
Living and Working in Portland
While our program takes place on the Oregon Coast we offer a shuttle from Portland, Oregon for all class excursions. Most students live and work in Portland. Portland is also the nexus for our community and family focused on traditional skills and ways of living. Portland has all the friendliness of a small town with all the benefits of a city. Living in Portland, for housing and other needs, is known to be highly cost effective. We don't even have a sales tax. Because of our location there are many local work opportunities for students outside of class time, especially when compared to programs of a similar nature. Employment options include service industries, sustainability-based organizations, outdoor education and much more. Trackers Earth does not necessarily employ immersion students in our youth or adult programs, though there may be work study opportunities available for students whose experience applies.
No Car Necessary
Portland has great public transportation options and is widely known as a bike-friendly city. There are transit lines and bike trails leading directly to the Trackers Campus where our shuttle leaves to our coastal site in Manzinita, Oregon.
